With these games I just find a lot of times the enemies stop feeling like actual threats and more just like mechanical obstacles.Īll that said, I think this might be one of the most interesting horror games I've played in a long time. Even Soma, which has one of the best sci fi horror stories I've ever seen, never really quite figured out how to make it feel engaging and dynamic after the initial few encounters. I was getting so, so burned out on the "run and hide" genre that the original Amnesia popularized. Spoiler free impressions from the first few hours: I missed the Amensia games and this filled that void perfectly, definitely recommended if you've enjoyed the previous games. I felt the ending was a little weak, but it felt in line with the previous games as well so to be expected. The gun and grenades felt appropriately balanced with the noise giving you away so you had to plan out what to do before using them. The puzzles were on par with the previous games, still satisfying as ever to manipulate objects and doors etc through the weighty physics system. I didn't get every note so I'm sure I'm missing some lore behind the creature itself and what it is exactly, but I never came to Amnesia games purely for the story stuff. The constant worry of making sure the generator has gas just kept me on my toes the whole time, making me want to venture out with just my torch when I felt I could navigate the areas by memory. Genuinely tense moments and terrifying brushes with death gave me enough thrills to make it feel worth the price. It took just under 6 hours which was a bit less than I was expecting, but I really enjoyed my time with it.
